Privacy Policy
The short version: Moving Water does not collect your data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your catches, photos, and fishing spots are stored on your device and are never uploaded to us — because there is no “us” server to upload them to.
Information we collect
None. We do not operate a server, we do not have user accounts, and we do not receive any information about you or your use of the app. We have no way to identify you.
Information the app stores on your device
All of the following stays in the app's private storage on your iPhone. It is included in your device backups if you have those enabled, and it is deleted when you delete the app.
- Fishing sessions and catches — species, sizes, notes, times, and the tide and solunar conditions recorded at each catch.
- Photos you attach to a session or a catch.
- Your selected spot — the tide station you chose and the map pin you dropped.
- Preferences, such as whether you prefer the satellite or standard map.
Location
Location access is optional. The app only requests it if you tap “Use my location”, and it is used for one purpose: to find which of NOAA's 3,499 tide stations is nearest to you. That comparison happens entirely on your device against a list of station coordinates.
Your location is never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can use the entire app without granting location access by tapping the map or searching for a station by name.
Camera and photos
Camera and photo library access are optional and used only when you choose to attach a photo to a catch or session. Photos are copied into the app's private storage and are never uploaded anywhere. The app does not read your photo library beyond the specific images you select.
Third-party services
The app makes two kinds of outbound request, neither of which carries personal information:
- NOAA CO-OPS (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) — a free public service of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The app requests tide predictions for a numeric station ID. No information about you is included.
- Apple MapKit — used to draw the maps in the app. Apple receives map requests in order to serve map imagery, handled under Apple's privacy policy. Apple has stated that MapKit does not associate this data with an Apple Account.
Children
Moving Water is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your choices
- Revoke location, camera, or photo access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security, or in Settings → Moving Water.
- Delete an individual session or catch inside the app; its photos are removed with it.
- Delete the app to remove all stored data from your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of the app ever collects data — for example an optional account for syncing your catch log across devices — that change will be described here and will require your explicit consent before anything leaves your device.
